Lots of interesting stuff to think about.

I was rewatching the vid and noticed that Tom was freaking out at certain points during the video being played. He was asking once, “What the fuck is this video?” and then when Ellis Gordon was possibly outed as an actor he began to freak out, screaming “Turn it off!”

Tom was the one who had told the video to be played. Now he’s surprised at what he saw? Did he expect something else to happen?

Anyone here who supports the BOS might as well deliver this message to Sentinel:

Release the video. Let the world hear and see it. Maybe, if you’re lucky, it’ll sway some hearts and minds towards your cause. Why not do it then, in the hopes of swelling up your ranks against the OOA?

Good morning! Now that my sleep cycle is completed, here is my account:

First, there was a lot of anxiety about gaining entrance on time due to the fact that ScareLA had some kind of Rube Goldberg-esque system in place for everyone to get their credentials before opening up the convention. By 11:20 am we were barely getting our wristbands and definitely feeling the TENSION of making it to the panel on time. Hustling over to the location we saw many familiar faces and once we made it to the meeting room it was actually kind of surprising and very heartening to see how many people we had become friends with and a physical approximation of the community that has coelesced due to this singular experience.

We seated ourselves after the smiles, hugs and hellos. On the stage five directors chairs were illuminated and presently Jonathan appeared and called up @reaton, @mike (Font-a-een), @electrichippo & @kasch. I sighed inwardly thinking that this was the feint Tension was going to use to remain hidden from us, but I was simultaneously glad to see that my friends were able to weigh in and represent the experience from the perspective of the participants. For the few who were just now being introduced to the Tension Experience a finer panel could not have been assembled to represent. Generic background questions were asked concerning when the experience launched and what events had the individuals undergone all of which has also been covered in various articles (Blumhouse) and podcasts (My Haunt Life). The first panel members were dismissed and one of the promotional videos for Tension was played.

Then Jonathan introduced the impresario and creator of the Tension Experience, Ellis Gordon. A young man seated in the crowd sprung up and amidst the applause took to the stage. He explained that he had done experimental theater in New York and wanted to try something wholly new. You have to forgive my vagueness during this section as my attention was being pulled in several different directions at this point. I noticed that there was an older couple seated in the front row and the gentleman seemed agitated by what Ellis was saying, at one point springing up from his seat only to be pulled back down by the woman who seemed to placate him or counsel him to remain calm. Jonathan asked questions gathered from the forums, one of @rizzooooooo’s (sorry if the tag didn’t work, I can’t remember how many o’s are in it). One of the questions was “Where did the idea for all of this come from?” (To paraphrase) Ellis explained that his great-grandfather had passed away and his grandfather was selling off some of the personal effects. Ellis was moving an old desk to this purpose when he found a secret compartment which held a document. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a page of what is most like from the Book of Anoch. He explained that the Church of Anoch (at this, the old couple made a gesture of supplication) was a real thing and this spawned his idea of creating an experience around a shadowy mysterious cult. At this point, another older gentleman, who had been sitting next to Ellis in the audience, stood up and loudly proclaimed, “It is not a cult. It is an organization.” Bewildered silence.

After a moment, Ellis introduced this man as his cowriter and actor, Atticus (can’t remember the last name because I was reeling). He mounted the stage with a presence and command that young Ellis lacked and though he was presented as second fiddle, the body language clearly indicated his hand was firmly planted up Ellis’s rear and Gordon was the meat puppet. The couple from the front row were also summoned and introduced as “actors” and so the dynamics of the panel shifted as the authoritarian attitudes of the three overtook and blotted out the thin idea that Ellis was in control of anything.

So I was there in attendance for the Tension panel and WOW!!! The mystery man @ellisgordon showed up and broke down the 4th wall about his inspiration for starting Tension. Apparently he found an old piece of paper from his great grandfathers possessions. This piece of paper was from The Church of Anoch, so although Tension is a game created by @ellisgordon, we still have the issue of “the church” of being real?? Crazy mind fuckery today…
Also as well, BoS… You came in once again and hijacked our meeting. You also posted a video with a message to us during this panel, but unfortunately with all the chaos going down, sorry to say but your message was not heard by myself, and many, many others. You want to deliver a message to us?? You want to interrupt the Tension panel? Give us your message then, out in the open, so we can receive it. I hope all of you that were at this panel will speak up about this BoS video, and hopefully it will find our way to us. Might I suggest giving it to a new BoS recruit to see if they will share your word?

Ugh, I hate being drawn OOG but here I go…

There are many of us who have never, and sadly probably will never, meet other players in real life. The Tension Experience attracts more and more new players every day leading up to Ascension, and who knows who they are and what mental baggage they bring with them… Some have never been involved in immersive theatre or haunts or any of that awesome stuff before so the rules could be unclear. What I’m trying to say is that I totally understand the concerns that Buz being involved in a “murder” of a key character could cause confusion for some, make it seem ok for a player to physically interact with a character in order to further their idea of where the narrative should be heading. Some players have known each other IRL for some time and can vouch for their comprehension of the blurring of lines and this is great. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for everyone else. The personas we present on the forum may or may not reflect who we are in our own lives. It’s better that this be thrown out in the open like this than in a month’s time, Tension being splashed across the headlines because someone got hurt, because someone went too far when they lost sight of reality/the rules of the game.

Personally, I hate rules. But I understand the need for them. To protect everyone involved.

All that being said, I think involving a player like that was absolutely amazing. And now people have aired their concerns and the rules have been made clear, lets just crack on with letting this sh*t get dark. If it gets too dark for you at any time, the creators aren’t here to hold your hand and you know where the door is. But @ellisgordon, I *want* to be messed with and terrified. So bring it on.

Thank you for posting this, @ellisgordon.

I was one individual who emailed you last night as a concerned participant, and I want to speak my case. I’m not concerned about anyone being a plant, nor am I concerned about uncovering what’s going on behind the scenes or what’s to come next. I hope that’s not what was taken away from my note. For the good of the experience and the future of Tension, what’s behind the curtain should stay there, as everything we’re experiencing here on a daily basis is still exciting and engrossing and a large part of everyone lives.

I wrote you an email because I wanted to make my own concerns about seeing a participant putting their hands on an actor with apparent intent to harm known, and make sure that The Tension Experience is aware of the precedent they’re setting within the immersive theater and extreme haunt community. Some may disagree with my concerns, but a door had been opened that had this clarification not been made, had the potential to be detrimental to the future existence of hands-on immersive experiences. I don’t want to see other experiences I and many others love be effected from a legal aspect due to a misunderstood plot development.

I greatly appreciate the measures taken by you and your team in making that a safe action, and hats off to @thebuz for his convincing acting.

So thank you for the clarification to the community. I’m lpoking forward to seeing you tomorrow, and I’m looking forward to the future of The Tension Experience.

@ellisgordon I think you are right… All is a game. You Gordon, have no idea what it is like to kill a person. What it is REALLY like. To take a person’s life and them stand over them, watching them gasp, stare off into space… Like a fish out of water. You feel no remorse. You feel nothing but you are happy to be still alive alive and the other person is not. You win, they lose. On to the next.

All is games. You will never really have any idea…true power, true regret, true life… Really living

Looking back at Ellis Gordon’s previous writing, this phone call really dosent fit his demeanor. Skittish is the last thing I would think so I wonder if this was maybe someone else? Someone pretending to be Gordon?

Could be wrong here but I do suspect the OP may be leaving something very important out for sake of creating false tension. I believe this because OP is not the only one that got a call from Ellis Gordon in that exact time frame, and the content of other said call(s) was mundane, rather than mysterious. Out of respect for Mr. Gordon I hope you all can appreciate my effort here to be discreet, as it was explicitly stated to me as “breaking the forth wall” matters only. I assure you as a member of this Tension community, rather than a member of BOS, that I’m not hiding anything secret or relevant to the OOA/BOS backstory/conflict.

I just got off the phone with Ellis Gordon. Really nice guy. He said he just wanted to break the 4th wall and tell me how he appreciated me coming to the Tension event at ScareLA this weekend.

That said, he sounded very nervous. I asked him if he was okay and he became very skittish, like he wanted to tell me something but couldn’t. I tried to pry it out of him but he quickly ended the conversation.

Either brother to or alias for Aleister Gordon, who was “ended” by III a few weeks ago.

    TLDR:

    – The OOA is a cult OOPS I MEAN DEFINITELY NOT A CULT
    – They act like a cult, talk like a cult, and (probably) hold people against their will like a cult.
    – They have apparently been in existence for many, many years. It is possible that they use Hollywood and various entertainment industry connections, to appear to be a game / Haunt / ARG, when they actually have much more nefarious plans.

    – There is a girl called Addison Barrow who got involved with them while trying to make it as an actress in Hollywood. Her father, Tom Barrow, is trying to reconnect with his daughter. Addison has commented she is not sure the person we see calling himself Tom is actually her father.
    – There are ‘Gatekeepers’ who appear to be temporarily calling the shots while they are around. We first met Gatekeeper 5, then ~Four, and now III. We don’t know their true purpose, nor why their names are written like they are. Addison is currently under the protection / guidance / enslavement of ~Four.
    – There are also ‘Regents’ and ‘Oracles’, and we don’t yet know their purpose.
    – There was a ‘Scribe’ chosen from amongst our own – @mike – who was removed from this post for being disrespectful to Gatekeeper III. III seems to have ‘a bit of a temper’, and tends to act out by cutting out people’s tongues or making them disappear.
    – Other people from the OOA who have appeared at various points include ‘Aleister Gordon’ who spoke to some players. There is also ‘Ellis Gordon’ who seemed to carry a lot of weight in the OOA, but has not been heard from or seen in some time.
    – The OOA seems to have internal strife, most recently seen in the actions of the ‘Plan B’ takeover, and emergence of Tension 2.0, that might now have ended, we don’t know for sure.

    – Some of us have been involved in trying to help Addison. Some of us have been involved in trying to help Addison’s parents.
    – Addison’s ex, “Benny” or “Mark” (both names have been used) may recently have injured himself after receiving a poor reception on this forum. There are some people questioning whether he actually hurt himself, or whether that was merely a ploy to lure Addison back out into the open.
    – Other people have interacted with lesser seen characters, but all of whom are involved in some way with the above points.

    – There is a separate, rival faction to the OOA, called BoS, or Brotherhood of Seraph – or “Sentinel”.
    – On a few occasions, people who thought they were meeting someone from the OOA had their plans changed without their knowledge, and met people from Sentinel instead. Tom Barrow met some participants on one of those occasions.
    – One amongst us, @electrichippo is the only person to have had consistent ongoing contact with Sentinel. No one currently knows if, when, or where Sentinel may reappear, show their hand, or become more involved in what is happening.

There are a lot of concurrent stories that you may read of and choose to follow, but these are the main strands I am paying attention to.

    Ellis Gordon?

    #11671

This is a question that has been hovering in the back of my mind for a couple months now. The first time the name “Ellis” was brought to our attention was during BoS’s 4/15/16 hack of the OOA. One of the targets of the hack was Tension’s Facebook page. BoS posted various messages on the page including this:

“ALEISTER GORDON, (or should we call you Ellis), SO CALLED “Puppet Master” – consider us your PUPPET “HACKERS”. You can’t silence us, we will release one name a day, until this entire organization BURNS to the ground.” (For completeness sake, The other two names revealed at this time were: Sarah Farber and James Eddison.)

So we have Ellis the Puppet Master as an alias for Aleister Gordon? This reminds me of the aliases people take on when they join the OOA (example: Mark became Benny)

Then in mid-May I had a private conversation with my organization. At the time the info felt out-of-game and meta before I realized Tension was capable of going meta. Here is what I was told:

“Ellis created TENSION, a new york theater troop
it started as some hippy art project
it became something – – sinister
now, Ellis is the name taken by both sides, as a Guy Faux type identity.”

The meta vibe, out-of-game conversational context, and confusing content had me sitting on the info, trying to decide if it was in-bounds or out.

What else do we know about Ellis Gordon?

I’ve heard random vague whispers on the matter. For example, I’ve heard the phrase “The Gordon Brothers.” This implies Aleister and Ellis are brothers. But, wait, I thought they were one in the same person? Which is it, brothers or two names for one person? We have these loose theories on how Gatekeepers are made via one soul entering a willing human vessel (example: FOUR and Addy). Are Aleister and Ellis another potential example of this theory?

I’ve also heard whispers that Ellis became involved when Rizzo was exiled. Maybe you can shed light on this @rizzzoooo? Is Ellis a Wizard of Oz sort of character who hides behind the curtain, only revealing himself when the shit hits the fan?

What else does this community know about Ellis Gordon? Please share and perhaps we can come up with a clearer picture.

I feel it’s important to keep a record of the grave injustice brought upon The OOA Institute yesterday afternoon. Please add your own first person accounts and related theories to this thread. I will begin…

Around 2:30 PST this website was hacked by intruders. The first sign of the hack was a red screen that overlaid all pages, with the initial message of:

“We will destroy OOA, and all it’s lies”

The hackers then modified their message a few time, in quick succession. In order, the messages as they appeared (including grammatical/spelling errors):

“You OOA frauds and liars, Your so called Ascension is no more than a cheap parlor trick. We know all, and we will expose all”

“You OOA frauds and liars, Your so called Ascension is no more than a cheap parlor trick. You pray on the weak, in hopes of gaining their strength. We know all, and we will expose all. Brothers of Seraph”

“You OOA frauds and liars, Your so called Ascension is no more than a cheap parlor trick. You pray on the weak, in hopes of gaining their strength. We know all, and we will expose all. Sentinel”

A review of page source uncovered the following message: <!– 3jl00k@h3r3 bahhaha p0wn3d –>

Over the next couple hours both The Tension Experience Facebook page and Instagram were overtaken.

The Facebook page was particularly interesting in the various messages and images that appeared. In general, the messages served to warn OOA and it’s Disciples that the entire organization is a fraud and that it will be burned to the ground. The images were of the red screen hack and a trolling meme pic of a cartoon man holding up his middle finger. At this point the hackers attempted to taunt by revealing the “true identities” of OOA personnel/leaders including Aleister Gordon who was referred to as “Ellis.” Also, the names of alleged OOA personnel Sarah Farber and a James Eddison were revealed. Disciples lashed back at the hackers with messages of vowed support of The OOA. (Perhaps someone else can give a more specific break down of the Facebook posts, as I did not have opportunity to screencap.)

The Instagram take over was merely the same cartoon man holding up his middle finger that appeared on Facebook, along with a message debasing OOA.

As these atrocities continued various small groups of Disciples gathered to compare notes, and vow loyalty to The Institute.

Please add information, theories, and declarations of OOA loyalty as you see fit.

We must stand together in solidarity against these lying scoundrels.
